Upon being discharged, his parents Lucy Muthoni Mbugua and Robert Githire were unable to come up with the balance of Ksh 111,127 needed to offset his bill. A well wisher and community mobilizer, Robert Githire, launched a funds drive at M-changa to help the family offset the bill at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The campaign has so far successfully raised Ksh. 29,287 with the help of 94 supporters.
